11th International Conference on Advances in Fluid Dynamics with emphasis on Multiphase and Complex Flow
6–8 July 2021
Online
Overview
With the main objective to preserve our delegates’ wellbeing, but also with the belief that the scientific community should not be stopped, WIT decided that AFM/MPF 2021 should not take place as scheduled, in Madrid, Spain, but take place as an online event instead.
The conference was organised by the Wessex Institute, UK, represented by Prof. Santiago Hernandez, and the University of New Mexico, USA, represented by Professor Prof. Peter Vorobieff.
The conference, which started in New Orleans, USA in 1996 is well established and always attracts a wide international spread of delegates. The field of fluid mechanics is vast and has numerous and diverse applications. The conference covers a wide range of topics, including basic formulations and their computer modelling as well as the relationship between experimental and analytical results.
Opening of the Conference
The conference was opened by the Chairmen of the conference - Prof. Santiago Hernandez and Prof. Peter Vorobieff who welcomed the delegates to the event.
Invited Presentations
There were a series of invited lectures on advanced topics of research and applications, as follows:
- “Three–dimentional validation exercise for FIESTA code: evolution on shock-driven instabilities”
by Peter Vorobieff, University of New Mexico, USA - “Design of optimal conductance probes for two-phase flow tomography and hold up: Application to the determination of average void fraction in a region”
by Jose Luis Muñoz-Cobo, Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain - “Numerical drag and lift prediction framework for superellipsoidal particles in multiphase flows”
by Jure Ravnik, Univerza of Mariboru, Slovenia - “Square cylinder under different turbulent intensity conditions by mans of small scale Turbulence”
by Santiago Hernandez, University of A Coruna, Spain - “Uncertainty quantification of aerodynamic and aeroelastic responses of a short-gap twin-box deck depending on the wind angle of attack”
by Felix Nieto, University of A Coruna, Spain - “Modelling of the sedimentation process of monodisperse suspension”
by Mariusz Rzasa, Opole University of Technology, Poland - “Study on pin hole leaks in gas pipelines—CFD simulation and its validation”
by Aziz Rahman, Texas A&M University at Qatar, Qatar
Conference Sessions
The papers presented during the conference were classified under the following headings:
- Multi-phase flow
- Nano and micro fluids
- Computational methods
- Theoretical formulations
- Computational and experimental studies
Q&A Zoon Sessions
Conference delegates were invited to participate in two Q&A Live Zoom Sessions which took place on 6th and 7th July 2021. These friendly sessions were a great opportunity for participants to interact with each other and ask questions to authors about their papers.
Conference Publication
Papers presented at this conference are published in Vol. 132 of the WIT Transactions on Engineering Sciences (ISSN 1743-3533). Papers presented at the meeting are available Open Access in the eLibrary of the Wessex Institute (https://www.witpress.com/elibrary) from where they can be freely downloaded by any interested parties.
A few papers were selected for publication in the International Journal of Computational Methods and Experimental Measurements. The aim of the Journal is to review the latest work in computational methods and experimental measurements, with a view to achieving harmonious development and interaction between the two.
Closing of the Conference
We are very sorry that we were not able to meet our delegates in person this year.
We would like to thank the delegates for participating in the event and look forward to meeting them at the next conference in the series.
