17th International Conference on Railway Engineering Design & Operation

Overview

With the main objective to preserve our delegates’ well-being, but also with the belief that the scientific community should not be stopped, WIT decided that COMPRAIL 2020 should not take place as scheduled in Berlin, Germany, but take place as an online event instead.

The conference was organised by the Wessex Institute, UK, represented by Professor Giorgio Passerini together with the Polytechnic University of Madrid (Spain), represented by Professor Jose Manuel Mera and Kogakuin University (Japan), represented by Professor Ryo Takagi.

The conference, which started in Frankfurt, Germany in 1987 is well-established and always attracts a wide international spread of delegates. The conference aims to update the use of advanced systems, promoting their general awareness throughout the management, design, manufacture and operation of railways and other emerging passenger, freight and transit systems.

Opening of the Conference

The conference programme opened with a presentation of the Wessex Institute followed by an opening address and welcome message from Professor Ryo Takagi.

Invited Presentations

There were a series of invited lectures on advanced topics of research and applications, as follows:

• “Certification of EGNOS safety-of-life service for ERTMS according to IEC 61508 and EN 50129]”, by Dr Ales Filip, University of Pardubice, Czech Republic.
• “On the distribution of the random arrival time” by Prof. Boris Davydov, Far Eastern State Transport University, Russia.
• “Optimising acceleration and braking performance profiles of railway vehicles for the robust operation of ultra-high frequency timetables” by Dr Ryo Takagi, Kogakuin University, Japan.
• “Development of route guidance supporting system for the visually impaired in railway Station” by Dr Jong-Gyu Hwang, Korea Railroad Research Institute, South Korea.
• “Experimental study on the viability of decentralized railway traffic management” by Dr Rémy Chevrier, SNCF Innovation & Research, France.

A few papers were selected for publication in the International Journal of Transport Development and Integration. This Journal covers the subjects of all transportation modes and the general topic of transport systems, with particular emphasis on their integration and harmonisation.

With the main objective to preserve our delegates’ well-being, but also with the belief that the scientific community should not be stopped, WIT decided that Risk Analysis 2020 should not take place as scheduled in Lisbon but take place as an online event instead.

The conference was organised by the Wessex Institute, UK, represented by Prof Stavros Syngellakis, and the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy, represented by Prof Andrea Fabbri.

The conference, which started in Valencia, Spain (1998) is well-established and always attracts a wide international spread of delegates. The conference covers a series of important topics of current research interests and many practical applications. It is concerned with all aspects of risk analysis and hazard mitigation, associated with both natural and anthropogenic hazards.

Opening of the Conference

The conference was opened by Prof Andrea Frabbri who welcomed the delegates to the event.

Prof Andrea Fabbri, from the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy gave the Keynote presentation
“Modelling aquifer vulnerability to nitrates under the assumption of varying spatial support of water well distribution” by A. G. Fabbri & A. Patera.

Dr Zhen-Gang Ji from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, USA, gave the invited presentation “Accessing Oil-Spill Risk in Cook Inlet, Alaska” by Z-G. Ji, C. Smith & W. R. Johnson

With the main objective to preserve our delegates’ well-being, but also with the belief that the scientific community should not be stopped, WIT decided that SUSI 2020 should not take place as scheduled in Lisbon but take place as an online event instead.

The conference was organised by the Wessex Institute, UK, represented by Prof Stavros Syngellakis and the University of Liverpool, UK, represented by Professor Graham Schleyer.

The conference, which started in Cambridge, Massachusetts (1989), is well-established and always attracts a wide international spread of delegates. The contents of the conference are of primary importance to scientists and engineers working in a variety of academic disciplines and industrial organisation who need to be aware of the latest developments in the impact response of materials and structures and the vulnerability of our infrastructure and environment to accidental explosions and terrorists’ attacks.

The conference was opened by Prof Graham Schleyer who welcomed the delegates to the event.

With the main objective to preserve our delegates’ well-being, but also with the belief that the scientific community should not be stopped, WIT decided that Energy Production & Management 2020 should not take place as scheduled, in Tallinn, Estonia, but take place as an online event instead.

The conference was organised by the Wessex Institute, UK, represented by Professor Stavros Syngellakis, the Ural Federal University, Russia, represented by Professor Elena Magaril and STARC, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia represented by Professor Hussain Al-Kayiem.

The conference, which started in Ekaterinburg, Russia in 2014, is well-established and always attracts a wide international spread of delegates. The aim of the meeting is to discuss the future of energy production, operation and management in a changing world. The objective is to compare conventional energy sources, particularly hydrocarbons, with a number of other ways of producing energy, emphasising new technological developments, based on renewable resources such as solar, hydro, wind and geothermal. An important objective of the conference is to discuss ways in which more efficient use can be made of conventional as well as new energy sources. This relates to savings in energy consumption, reduction of energy losses, as well as the implementation of smart devices and the design of intelligent distribution networks.

Opening of the Conference

The conference opened with a presentation of the Wessex Institute followed by an opening address of the Energy Production & Management Conference Series, welcoming delegates to this year’s event.

The conference was organised by the Wessex Institute, UK, represented by Professor Juan Casares, and the University of Seville, Spain, represented by Professor Samuel Dominguez Amarillo.

The conference, which started in Valencia, Spain in 2016 is well-established and always attracts a wide international spread of delegates. The variety of topics will deal with the design of many types of buildings in Islamic countries, including not only the better known public buildings like mosques, mausolea, citadels and forts, but also houses and gardens, engineering works such as bridges and dams, irrigation systems and many others which have also had a profound impact on society.
