17th International Conference on Studies, Repairs and Maintenance of Heritage Architecture

Overview
With the main objective to preserve our delegates’ wellbeing, but also with the belief that the scientific community should not be stopped, WIT decided that STREMAH 2021 should not take place as scheduled, in Rome, Italy, but take place as an online event instead.
The conference was organised by the Wessex Institute, UK, represented by Prof. Santiago Hernandez and Link Campus University, Italy represented by Pietro Polidori and Carlo Alberto Giusti.
The conference, which started in Washington Florence, Italy in 1989 is well established and always attracts a wide international spread of delegates. The meeting addresses a series of topics related to the historical aspects and the reuse of heritage buildings, as well as technical issues on the structural integrity of different types of buildings, such as those constructed with materials as varied as iron and steel, concrete, masonry, wood or earth. Restoration processes require the appropriate characterisation of those materials, the modes of construction and the structural behaviour of the building.
Opening of the Conference
The conference was opened by the chairmen of the conference - Prof. Santiago Hernandez and Dr Guido Marseglia who welcomed the delegates to the event.

Conference Sessions
The papers presented during the conference were divided into 8 sessions.
Q&A Live Zoom Sessions
Conference delegates were invited to participate in a Q&A Live Zoom Sessions which took place on 27th and 28th May 2021. Those friendly sessions were a great opportunity for participants to interact with each other and ask questions to authors about their papers.
Conference Publication
Papers presented at this conference are published in Vol. 203 of the WIT Transactions on the Built Environment (ISSN 1743-3509). Papers presented at the meeting are available Open Access in the eLibrary of the Wessex Institute (https://www.witpress.com/elibrary) from where they can be freely downloaded by any interested parties.
A few papers were selected for publication in the International Journal of Computational Methods and Experimental Measurements and the International Journal of Transport Development and Integration.
Closing of the Conference
We are very sorry that we were not able to meet our delegates in person this year.
We would like to thank the delegates for participating in the event and look forward to meeting them at the next conference in the series.
